The Ballad of Superman

We open with our hero cruising the known earth for evil-doers and stray ice cream…

Superman 01

However, within only a short time (or thereabouts), the man of steel targets his opposite and zooms for justice…

Superman 02

But one sweeping pass with his Ribbon of Doom misses its intended target and Superman careens off into the depths of space…

Superman 03

But with hardly a nanosecond lost, our hero is once again upon his prey – the scent of victory full in his nostrils!

Superman 04

With a feint and a laugh, Superman shrugs off his intent and leads the Evildoer away from the known earth:

Superman 05

Another swipe at victory!

Superman 06

But the Man of Steel is himself mortally struck and never found any ice cream anyway!

Superman 07

His great arms flung to mother sky in supplication for his life…

Superman 08

Superman is vanquished…

Superman 09

Lois Lane sat and watched it all and took lots of notes, mostly on how to get a better script next time, hook up with a less-hammy actor and talk to her SAG rep about the ice cream bit:

Country weekend

We spent the weekend with good friends up at their country property north of Caledon, ON.

Just one night, but a welcome relief from the daily grind. We picked raspberries until I think it could be awhile before I consume them again. Poor Finney has started to get carsick over the last few car trips and very quietly and without angst brought up dinner and a slew of raspberries in the car last night on the way home. She didn’t even whimper. Within a minute or so she was her chipper self again. There are reserves many adults will never tap in their lifetimes in that little girl… But she did cry mericilessly for about 1.5 hrs on the trip up, though.

Owen was the older child, and very much seemed so (piteous crying over dropped toys aside….). He seems happier these past two months (more?) than all of last year. Perhaps this is residual moving-from-Toronto atmospherics, but you just can’t know for sure.

We went for swims and splashes in the pond on our friends’ property and had lots of fun hunting down frogs, who eventually just got bored and stopped swimming away and were caught more easily after awhile. At first, a few swam into the stream of cold water entering the pond through a pipe and seemed struck with “Jah-heezuz! That is truly freaking cold!” and stopped dead in their tracks making them especiually easy to catch. They just floated, stunned by the arrival of Iceland into central Ontario…

Of course, we took lots of picks of kids frolicking everywhere, but we’ll save those for their parents to post, if they wish.

Back to work….

Before Me

Sometimes the things you look for in your life are always before you. Like spirit and joy and purpose.

Sultry evening…

I won’t believe this post’s title in six months time…

Nevertheless, it is warm and I am ticking away at the computer putting together a few images of Owen.

It all started with reading an interesting thread in an online forum regarding importation of old Nintendo game sounds into Apple’s GarageBand application. I know ‘nah-theeng’ about audio except how to bollocks it up, but this thread was interesting because it demonstrates a nifty Flash plugin for WordPress – the engine behind this journal – for sound files. Hey, I have some sound files of the kids taken now and then as they’ve evolved into little ankle-biter, nerve-gettin’-on, loud-makin’, super-cryin’, laughter-causin’, bodily-noise-creatin’ critters! And so I thought I take one of Owen reciting Baa baa black sheep (which undoubtredly some of you already know and remember), but accompanying the soundbyte with images taken then and now. It shows quite a contrast in his lordship as you can see below. May he slumber in peace and not wake from nightmares we induced by sitting him through Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory….

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

This soundbyte was recorded in december of 2003, when he was a little over two years old.

And here are some images of him taken in July of that same year:

And here are some picsh of the lad taken just a few days ago:

And for the sake of comparison:

So these images were taken pretty much exactly three years apart. Nifty comparison.

Over and out.
